In the Bear's Grotto - Arctotherium and Equus

Pleistocene in Brazil, State of Tocantins. Ahead of the Gruta do Urso's massif , the bear Arctotherium wingei scares a group of the horses Equus (Amerhippus) neogeus, taking advantage of the stampede's mess to approach and attempt to reach an individual.

A study by the Laboratory of Mastozoology - UNIRIO (LAMAS) and colleagues presented the unprecedented evidences of the ecological interaction between these species, where the horse's bones showed marks left by the bear, who had consumed them.

I had the pleasure to produce this illustration for the researchers!
